January 19 The NJ Office of Child Support Services both remembers and honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We celebrate his life of courage, passion, and commitment. The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’”   Congress designated the Martin Luther King, Jr., federal holiday as a national day of service in 1994; and, assigned the task of spearheading this initiative to the Corporation for National and Community Service. The following is their recap of the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service: 15,000+  economically disadvantaged people received job placement, financial literacy, and job skill development training 38,000+  veterans, military families, and active duty military service members received assistance 58,000+  children and teens tutored, mentored, or otherwise educated 100,000+  people received training in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery 360,000+  people received emergency food In his 2014 Presidential Proclamation, Barack Obama said, “By volunteering our time and energy, we can build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities. … Let us … march a little closer to the Nation Dr. King envisioned.” Welcome to the New Jersey Child Support website. Still, some children do not get the support they need. Regardless of their living situation or relationship, both parents should provide the financial, medical and emotional support a child needs to grow into a responsible adult. New Jersey's Child Support Program can help. There are two parents in every child support case. One is the custodial parent (or the payee) - the one who lives with the child and has the primary day-to-day responsibility. And the other is the non-custodial parent (or the payor) - who also has important responsibilities. Co-parenting is vital to maintaining a healthy relationship with your child. Although one person may have the day-to-day duties, taking shared responsibility is a key element in the support and success of children. Remember: your child has the right to support and you have the right to this help. All the services described on this site are available to you.
